The Dramatised Bible
| Guest reviewer | Karen Kreft, children's catechist in the Parish of St Peter & St Paul |
This book does exactly what it says on the cover. It is a copy of the Bible, but in script form.
Very user friendly, it is set out in order starting with Genesis (In the beginning....) and ending with Revelations. Each book is split into sections with sub-headings such as The fall of Jericho (from the book of Joshua) or The preaching of John the Baptist (from Matthew). All the passages have appropriate chapter and verse references. At the end of each script there is a cast list with advice if appropriate. There is an appendix of special Christmas Readings.
This book will be a Godsend (!) to schools, Childrens Liturgy leaders, youth groups and Bible study groups. It makes it possible to bring familiar words alive and could encourage greater participation in public worship.
The book has received plaudits from many Church Leaders. Cardinal Basil Hume (may he rest in peace) said of this book:
I welcome [it] as another way of bringing the Scriptures alive and making them more accessible to all Christians..
Our copy will be used extensively in Childrens Liturgy of the Word, in the Masses prepared by young people, and at school. It is an invaluable resource to anyone who wishes to bring the words of Scripture alive.
